Summer Camp Staff

Each year Camp Hanover goes through a massive recruitment program, drawing on talent and enthusiasm from all over the world in order to make each summer's staff the best ever. It's a huge task but it is one that has paid off again and again for the hundreds of kids that come to camp each year.

 

 

 

If you know exactly what to expect from summer camp or you don't have a clue then we'll try and answer as many questions as we can for you, right here. Of course, if you are interested and have more questions then please don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll get straight back to you. We promise that coming to join the staff at Camp Hanover can only be described as probably the best experience in the world.

The kinds of people that we are seeking must have a tolerant/ searching/ growing Christian faith commitment and a love for children. They must also possess the ability to work patiently with youth through both the good and the bad times and have an enthusiasm for life. Applicants must also have a desire to live in, care for, and learn about God's creation and a willingness to live in and make positive contributions to an intense and diverse Christian community.

The Experience

We subscribe to the small group camping model. This means that two counselors and their 12 coed campers plan, work, play, worship, and grow together as they strive to build a Christ-centered community of trust, openness, sharing and forgiveness. Campers are challenged to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord as they grow spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Opportunities abound for making new friends; meeting people from all walks of life; learning and practicing outdoor and leadership skills; taking responsibility for God's world; having barrels of fun; laughing a lot; and reaching out to others.

The Responsibilities

Job descriptions are provided which spell out in detail the expectations for each position. In general we ask each staff member to SERVE as a Christian guide and role model for each camper; USE YOUR GIFTS AND TALENTS to enrich the camp program; SEEK to provide campers with a meaningful experience; and GIVE the best that you have to offer to all those with whom you will work and live.

The Benefits

Base pay is $2300 for the Small Group Leaders (pay for other positions is based on experience) for the full 10 weeks (2 weeks of staff training and 8 weeks of camp). Payment for staff training is pro rated based on the number of program weeks worked. PLUS…$50-$100 increments added to the base pay for specified experience, certifications or skills; full room and board; travel allowance of up to $75 to help you get to the staff training time.

The setting and accomodations

Nearly 600 acres of beautiful rolling woodlands with streams, springs, and a 14 acre lake will be your home for the summer. We have two swimming pools and numerous trails to lead you to interesting sites rich in both natural and cultural history. You will have a variety of living situations which may include: screened-in longhouses with electricity; hogans (covered wagons without electricity or wheels!); wall tents without electricity; in a tent while on a canoe or hiking trip or overnight camp out. While in camp you have running water, hot showers, and flush toilets.
