A Place Apart…

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Jesus knew the importance of time away, apart from the constant blur of the everyday. Camp Hanover is one of those “quiet places.” Things are different here.

As the Outdoor Ministry of the Presbytery of the James, this is a place where Christ-centered community is nurtured. Where you can experience God’s presence in the natural world. And where central Virginians have a unique opportunity to gather in “a place apart.”

Come, your invitation awaits…

A Confirmation Retreat

February 27 – March 1, 2015 at Camp Hanover

In many ways, Confirmation is the beginning of the faith journey as a member of a church. Through this retreat, Confirmands will learn how prayer, scripture, and fellow Christians can aid them on this journey.

This event is designed to complement any church’s Confirmation program, regardless of where they are in the process. Through keynotes, small group discussion, and time for recreation, youth participants will have the opportunity to interact with others going through the confirmation process. Sign up today!

Holy Ground

A Nature Retreat for Adults

April 17 – 18 at Camp Hanover

Just weeks after the average last frost in Virginia and days before Earth Day, celebrate God’s presence in all of creation, from the ground up to the sky. This retreat is a time to learn about our local environment and our call to protect it, with time for discussion as well as personal reflection. This program includes a first look at proposed stewardship projects on site, as well as a service opportunity to help prepare camp’s garden for a productive growing season.

Leader: Colleen Earp

Colleen is Camp Hanover’s Director of Youth, Environmental, and Service Ministries. She is a geographer and a Young Adult Volunteer alum who is excited about natural resource conservation and outdoor education. She and her husband live in Richmond.

This retreat for adults begins with dinner at 6:00pm Friday evening and concludes by 4:00pm on Saturday.
The cost of $55/per person includes 3 meals, overnight lodging and all program materials.

Mother of Middle School Campers
“My daughter enjoyed her first time at camp. You did a great job looking over the campers when dangerous weather moved in.”
Father of a Middle School Camper
“I was so impressed with the personal manner in which my child and her needs were attended to from the very beginning. The counselors were wonderful!
Mother of an Elementary School Camper
“I can’t say enough about how good it was to see counselors playing with the campers, being silly with them in appropriate ways. Loved watching the counselors dive into the mud slide with the campers! Healthy, active, outdoors, silly when appropriate, listening when needed, this is the experience I want my children to have!”
Mother of Elementary School Campers
“I have been singing Camp Hanover’s praises since my child came home. Camp was a turning poin in shaping who he is, gaining confidence and realizing his strengths.”
